I'd passed through Omi-Hachiman many times but had never taken the time to sightsee. The town was a pleasant surprise: lovely canals, old streets and a very nice shrine.

On a more recent visit to Biwa, I went with a cycling group and stayed at an old local house in Omi-Hachiman. The house was in such bad shape that we had to make a rule that no more than three people entered the kitchen at a time (the floor might collapse otherwise).
