The road to Hakuba begins either from Toyama or Itoigawa, depending on how much time and energy you have. We’ll cover the longer route; this is Toyama Castle in the center of that city. From here, we head straight northward to the coast.

As soon as you hit the coast, you’re treated to stunning views of the Japan Alps like this one. It’s a bit incongruous to see people spreading out beach towels against the stunning backdrop of snowy peaks.
