Eventually the bikepath also affords quiet, lovely views of Lake Notoro; the areas near shore are very picturesque marshland. Further out you can see boats gliding across the lake. It’s so relaxing that, like me, you may be tempted to go very, very slowly.

After passing through the marshy lakeside scenery for a considerable distance, all of a sudden I was in a pine forest, with the intoxicating smell of pine almost overpowering. If there had been a campground here, I would have changed plans and spent the night... even without a tent.
