Another day, another series of hills. This was a lovely road and only went over a low 500 m pass, but there were some ups and downs that made it a struggle in the unseasonable heat.

The reason for the complete lack of any stores or vending machines along this road: this sign (on a public restroom) says to be forewarned that there is neither electricity nor water, so this is not a flush toilet, and no toilet paper is provided. It ends by saying “As long as you understand this, feel free to use.” The lack of electricity and water undoubtedly applies to the entire road. By this time I was completely out of water, and of course in Hokkaido you never want to drink stream water due to a certain parasite in fox feces... Luckily, this restroom was located near a small waterfall, and there was a lady selling drinks out of an ice chest.
